📣A meeting to present the assessment of the Small Scale Fisheries Guidelines Implementation and status in Latin America and the Caribbean Region to be held in Belize City 22nd April to 27th April 2024.

📍The Regional Advisory Group in Latin America and the Caribbean (RAG-LAC) was established to facilitate and support the promotion and advocacy for implementing the Small-Scale Fisheries Guidelines (SSF Guidelines) and the rights of small-scale fishers. The RAG-LAC is presently funded by the Centro Internazionale Crocevia (Crocevia) and SwedBio (SU) to support social movements leading to the implementation of the SSF Guidelines at the regional level through the FAO SSF-GSF.

📍Caribbean Network Fisherfolk Organization (CNFO) is one of the members of the RAG-LAC and is the convener for the second regional meeting to be hosted in Belize.

📢The objectives of the meeting are to discuss the findings resulting from the assessment of the implementation of the SSF guidelines in the region, report of the situation in each country, and declare the position of the group.

More than 25 organizations of artisanal fishermen participated in this congress, which constitutes ULAPA (Latinoamericana Union of Artesanal Fishing) among them representatives of Colombia, Mexico, Guatemala, Chile, Argentina, Honduras, Brazil, Santa Lucia, Guyana, Ecuador, St. Kitts & Nevis, Costa Rica, Peru, El Salvador and Panama.

✏️ The purpose of the meeting was to share experiences and articulate efforts related to the various problems faced by coastal and artisanal fishing communities, especially with regard to advancement of fossil fuel exploitation and climate change.
