In Barbados, there is the Oistins Fish Festival during the Easter week. This year’s celebration to celebrate fisherfolk was held from April 9-17, 2017. Each year there are many competitions associated with fishing.
Other Caribbean countries regard fish as the prize food during the lent season. In Bahamas, CNFO representative explained that traditionally the country adheres to the Christian philosophy of Easter and the significance of refraining from eating meat during lent. Easter is the second-high sales period for Bahamian fishers. The other is Christmas. The traditional fish consumed at Easter are Lane Snappers, Jacks and Google Eyes (when they can be found).
Apart from fasting during lent, staff member of CNFO explained that especially on Good Friday the only food Belizeans traditionally prepare is a meal made with fish. Her meal this good Friday was a fish sere. Sere is a fish broth prepared with coconut milk. It was pure perfection and tastiness she stated.
