Be Bold for Change – International Women’s Day 2017

Be Bold Fisherwomen!

Ms. Vernel Nicholls of Barbados is making Caribbean history as the first elected Chair of the Caribbean Network of Fisherfolk Organisations (2016-2019).  She is also the President of the Barbados National Union of Fisherfolk Organisations (BARNUFO).

Nicholls is doing her part to promote gender equality as a member of the Gender in Fisheries Team (GIFT). The main objective of GIFT is to facilitate and support implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries in the Context of Food Security and Poverty Eradication (SSF Guidelines) in CRFM member states.

Today on this International Women’s Day, Chairlady Nicholls wants to recognize two super women in the fishing industry. She extends a hand shake to Ms. Lorna Warner, a fisherwoman, of St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as Ms. Amanda Guy, a fish vendor, of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.  She urges everyone to keep the momentum going and have women’s effort in the industry highlighted and appreciated!  #beboldforchange
